Too much of a foodie

I just got back from good ol Aggieland in College Station TX
It occured to me that I may be a bit too much of a foodie on some days.
Whenever I go out of town I really want to eat and try new things that I can’t get back home.
To me, part of the trip, even one we make alot is trying to get new things in my stomach.
So, I really wanted to try a local favorite Blue Baker, but instead we ended up at IHOP. At least I didn’t get sick from the food. For lunch we ate at Fuddruckers and Olive garden. So, what  you gonna do. Its behind me but I do recall being almost, note… almost upset about not getting a chance to try something new. At least we had home made pizzas one night and played a TON of Rock Band.

Pizza was great, appleheads mother, whom I adore to no ends, got dough from Double Daves and we made a few pies. She made one with just cheese and one with pepperoni. I made one with Alfredo sauce, basil, oregano and garlic.  Her dad said it was pretty good and the man doesn’t say that about much. I did note the rest of it vanished pretty fast. We had some steaks on Mothers day and they were very nice. I would have liked more flavor in the marinade, but its not my kitchen so I stayed away from it.

Now when I say too much of a foodie, I guess I mean that sometimes I have to let my hobby, past time, obession with all things food sit by the way side and enjoy not being at work for a few days.

So the search for good and new foods it great,  but sometimes some crunchy Cheetos on my salad is ok too.

My Dad Pleasing Pizza

Regular sized pizza dough, you can make it yourself or buy one pre made.
5-8 Thick cut applewood smoked bacon, cooked and chopped into nice pieces
Olive Oil
Dried Basil
Dried Oregano
Shredded cheese, I use mozzarella and a mix of Colby and cheddar
Alfredo Sauce, again make your own or pre made is fine if its good quality.
Minced garlic, if nothing else is made by hand, at least do this yourself, it really does matter.

I heated the oven to 400 and got my dough properly onto the pan. Not too much tossing but a little to interest appleheads little sister. I rub some olive oil into the crust and let it bake with nothing else for 10 minutes. when i remove it, its very bubbly on top which is good. Then I pop the bubbles with a spoon.I spoon on the sauce and get it evenly on the dough leaving a nice edge for crust. I sprinkle my herbs and garlic about and then a little of shredded cheese(mozzarella). Then I add the bacon. I let this bake at 400 for 13 minutes. Then I remove it and add another layer of cheese(cheddar mix). I put it up to broil and then watch closely to get the crispy brown I like.

I love this pizza hot or cold and its just so good with cream soda
